If you're involved in a car accident, then it's not just you need to think about. Obviously, you will need to consider your passengers as well.

If you have a passenger with a disability or an impairment and they have been involved in an accident, getting them out of the vehicle can be very difficult. If it is a serious accident and there is a fire you will need to get them out very quickly, making sure that you talk to them the whole time.

If the accident scene is safe and you can leave you passenger in the vehicle, talk to them, and tell them what is going on. Find out if they are injured in any way and take time to check that you are OK and don't have any injuries.

Call the emergency services and ask for an ambulance if anyone is injured.

If your passenger is injured, stay with them but make sure that it is safe for you to do so, keep talking to your passenger and keep them calm and warm.  Tell them that help is on the way.  They may be concerned that they are going to miss an appointment, offer to call on their behalf or let them borrow your phone to call a loved one.

If you have a problem with your vehicle, first put your hazard lights on and assess the situation,  if it is safe for you and your passenger to remain in the vehicle, tell your passenger or passengers what is going on and call the breakdown service.

If your vehicle is not in a safe place, you will need to call the police as they may need to come and divert traffic.  You may need to help your passengers out of the vehicle to safety. Leaving a passenger in a vehicle that is not in a safe position on the road, could result in the vehicle being hit by another car and this could cause serious injury to your passenger.

Make sure that you help the passenger out in the safest way possible, help them exit the vehicle on the side away from any oncoming traffic.

If it is safe and you are waiting in the vehicle, be ready to act in case something happens.  If you are carrying medical oxygen, you will need to tell the emergency services, in cases where there could potentially be a fire, an oxygen cylinder could be a serious problem.
